NOI UK

Brisbane, Australia | 15-17 November 2019 | Brisbane Convention Centre

The iconic EP3 seminar is back with three days of clinically relevant and nutritious education – this time in beautiful Brisbane! Lorimer Moseley and David Butler are joined by Professor Johan Vlaeyen, world renowned for his fear-avoidance model. Join us for this unique educational event as Lorimer the neuroscientist, Johan the psychologist and David the educationalist tackle the massive issues of your client’s fear of movement and fear of pain, and your own fear of what to do with it all!

Professor Johannes Vlaeyen

The Psychologist
Maastricht University | Research Gate

Johan is probably the famous Belgian ever to visit Australia! He is a world renowned health psychologist with numerous international awards. A Professor at the Universities of Leuven and Maastricht, Johan’s experimental work includes studies on the ways people acquire pain-related fear and disability and what clinicians can do about it. He helped develop the fear-avoidance model of chronic pain and is a co-author of Pain Related Fear: Exposure based Treatment of Chronic Pain (IASP Press 2012). Johan throws a wide professional net; his work also embraces other chronic bodily symptoms such as tinnitus and fatigue. He is right into translational research and he and his team have developed fear reduction treatments for chronic pain and tinnitus.

Dr Lorimer Moseley

The Neuroscientist
Body in Mind | TEDx Talk Painful Yarns book

Lorimer is Professor of Clinical Neurosciences and Foundation Chair in Physiotherapy at the University of South Australia. He has over 25 years clinical experience working with people in persistent pain, has authored hundreds of articles, multiple books and chapters and continues to present keynote lectures globally. His community outreach and whole of community education initiatives are internationally renowned. His work is cited in clinical guidelines internationally. He is an honoured member of the Australian Physiotherapy Association, an Honorary Fellow of the ANZCA Faculty of Pain Medicine and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences. You might spot Lorimer zipping around the city on his scooter or sipping a piccolo at your local trendy café.

Dr David Butler

Faculty Profile | Brain Smudging | Other videos

David has blended a life of writing, teaching, clinical work and dabbling in research. Education is his forte and he has taught over 40,000 health professionals world wide and delivered over 50 keynote addresses. He would love to retire to fish, sit on boulevards to ponder life while sipping Pinot, but the revolution in the understanding of pain, the increasing awareness of the power of knowledge and the potential for change keep him charged. It’s the question of ‘How do we best help people learn’ that drives him. David authored the classic textbooks Mobilisation of the Nervous System (1991), The Sensitive Nervous System (2000) and then with Lorimer Moseley: Explain Pain (2003), (2013), The Explain Pain Handbook: Protectometer (2014) and Explain Pain Supercharged (2017). A polychromatic dress sense and way with words round off a dynamic presenter.

Course delivery

The course will be a blend of lectures, interaction and practical workshops. There will be ample time to mix with the presenters throughout the three days.

Who is it open to?

EP3 2019 is open to all professionals working with people experiencing acute and chronic pain, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, doctors, psychologists, nurses, chiropractors, osteopaths, massage therapists and others.

I've been to an EP3 before - shall I come again?

YES! There will be lots of completely new original material, new science and new jokes.

What is the difference between a regular Explain Pain course and an EP3?

The Explain Pain course and the EP3 seminar are very different educational opportunities. Explain Pain is our standard course covering the core pain biology, curriculum setting and story telling. EP3 is about what three of the most influential people in pain treatment are thinking and doing NOW – so every EP3 is unique.
